The FAA made it official: the Republican National Convention is a No Drone Zone.
The world may be buzzing about Trump, Tim Tebow and Peter Thiel, who will be speakers at the Republican National Convention in Cleveland, Ohio, but there’s one thing the FAA can’t buzz — your drones.
The FAA has put a flight restriction in place from 6 p.m. on July 17 through 3 a.m.on July 22. The prohibited area is a circle of airspace 30 nautical miles in radius around the Quicken Loans Arena, where the convention takes place.
“Flying a drone anywhere in the prohibited area during the Republican Convention is against the law,” according to an FAA news release. “Violating the airspace may result in criminal or civil charges. The restriction applies to all unmanned aircraft, including radio-controlled model aircraft.”
Similar restrictions will be in place for the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia the following week.
