There’s a new drone film festival coming to the U.S. this year, and this one is in Boston.
The Boston Drone Film Festival will take place this November 15 and 16.
The event kicks off that Friday evening with an opening ceremony, film and photo screening, and awards and giveaways, all held at Boston’s Yawkey Theater.
The second day, Saturday, will be a full day of education, including three panel discussions, two demonstrations and eight workshops. That day will take place at Red Sky Studios, which is a full working studio, complete with sound stages, located in Allston, MA.
The even is looking for videographers to submit their films in any one of their 11 categories: Fiction, Documentary, Landscape, Urban, Sports, Showreel, Single Take, Special Effects (VFX), Film Editing, Freestyle FPV, and Cinematic FPV. There is also one special category for Student films.
Still photographers can enter one of three categories: Nature, Architecture, Portrait
And there’s one more type of photography you won’t find at most drone film festivals: 360. There are also three “360” categories, including 360 Narrative, 360 Landscape and 360 Photography
The submission deadline is Sept. 15. All nominees will be notified on October 16, 2019. Submit your work here.
Among the judges include Women Who Drone founder Elena Buenrostro, FPV pilot Zoe Stumbaugh, Vice Media Chief of Staff Alon Soran, professional drone racer Paul Nurkkala, and filmmaker Ambika Lee. The panels held the following today will include discussion by industry experts including the Federal Aviation Administration’s Sam Nelson and Vaughn College adjunct professor/former FAA Counsel Loretta Alkalay.
The event is being put on by Jovan Tanasijevic, co-founder of Above Summit, which has done work for networks including AMC, NBC and Netflix.
